Computer classes were in great demand in Coláiste Ghobnatan this year. There are approximately one hundred people attending these classes. There are two Beginners classes and two ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) classes.

First Aid [top]

There are twenty five people attending this course. Many of them are doing the course sponsored by their employers. There is approximately twenty hours involved altogether divided between instruction, practical work and an exam. A booklet is made available to the students and a certificate will be presented to those who have successfully completed the course.

This course is a good example of the public and local industry using the College facilities. The College management are very much in favour of this co-operation and look forward in the future to more such initiatives.

Udarás na Gaeltachta – Classes and Workshops 2000
For the second year, ‘Seirbhísí Teanga Mhuscraí’ are running classes and workshops in Irish. ‘Seirbhísí Teanga Mhuscraí’ is a partnership of UCC, Coláiste Ghobnatan, Udarás na Gaeltachta, Meitheal Mhuscraí and Scoil Mhuire Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh.

The following classes were organised:

• Irish as a Foreign Language with Micheál Mac Lochlainn every Monday in Árus Eamonn Mac Suibhne, Cúil Aodha at 7:30pm

• Advanced Irish Class with Dr. Sean Ó Suilleabháín, UCC in Coláiste Ghobnatan on Tuesday at 8:00pm. This class studies the Muscraí dialect and the gaelgóirí who are most well known for their stories etc. 

• Oral Irish Class in Coláiste Ghobnatan every Wednesday with Dónal Ó Liatháin. This class is intended for those who would like to speak Irish and want some more practice. News, local and national activities are discussed and everyone gets a chance to have their say!

• Oral Irish class in Scoil Mhuire, Ballingeary , with Siobhán Ní Loinsigh every Wednesday. This class is suitable for those who want to improve their Irish.

• The classes cost approximately £20 per term, with sponsorship from Udarás na Gaeltachta.
